Day 1 - Let's Run

MY JOURNEY

Houston, we have a problem...

And it isn't the program.

It wasn't the morning weight training either.

The problem is that I don't own a pair of running shoes.

The years of Chuck Taylor's and vans seems to have finally caught up to me.

Now the real problem is I didn't realize this until I got home after work and was getting ready to run.

Luckily there is a store that fits runners for shoes down the street. I drive over and head in with my wife who knows that I am lost in here.

I'm more comfortable in a shoe store that has a clearance rack out front.

I get on the machine and get my feet mapped.

Wide with high arches.

Not shocked at that outcome.

He helps me slip on a couple of pairs and before you know it I am bouncing around in a pair of Brooks Ghost Max 2s.

The next problem. The terrible blue color is the only one they have.

Good news is Dick's has a pair about thirty minutes away.

A quick one hour round trip and I am back at the park by the bay.

The water looks nice, my running speed does not.

A 5-minute warm-up, 25-minute run, and 5-minute cool-down takes me way too long with my Zone 2 heart rate pace.

Well walk-jog pace that is.

My quads are burning from my training today and the slow pace I had to keep.

Is this really what I want to do?

Well $160 on my feet says "You better try it for a bit."

Oh yeah, did I mention I started my Garmin on "Indoor Run"? What a noob...
