Day 49 -50 Meters

Swimming 50 meters...

Is something that most won't have as a goal in their mind.

The sprint is a 750m open water swim and yet I am here talking about a mere 50.

Why?

Because up to this point I really haven't made it that far without stopping.

It's not that I can't swim 50 meters. I can do that. I just can't with a proper freestyle stroke.

Today feels different though.

I walk into the pool, check in, and change into my jammers.

The sun feels amazing today, the outdoor pool looks unbelievably welcoming.

Water temperature says 86 as I slide into an open lane.

I begin with some drills, my flippers on, still working to solidify my kicks.

It's feeling easier today.

I begin to work my strokes and my breaths, trying to be patient and calm.

3 counts are my metronome.

I get about 500 meters in and remove the rubber devices from my feet.

I begin slowly, 30 meters without a stop. 40 meters on the way back.

Am I actually learning how to breathe?

Next thing you know and I swim a full length!

My wife is giving me a thumbs up. She had stopped to watch my technique.

She has been very positive throughout this, something I need as I get frustrated to no end.

I finish another 500 meters and finish my session.

Today was a good day...
