Day 7 - A Breakdown(through)

MY JOURNEY

I ain't Nemo...

But it sure seems like I'm missing in the pool some days.

Family time is in full effect and the craziness begins in the house early.

My nephew and my dog have formed a bond of hyperactivity that I'm not sure can be matched. It's like the energizer bunny met a rabbit charged with a Tesla coil.

I come out of the bedroom to them running around the house. Our English Bulldog jumping from the couch, to the coffee table, to the floor as they play tag.

This starts the events.

Next is coffee, a quick run to the local shop to grab some beans (and a cold brew) before coming home to make pour overs for the crew.

We follow up with some beach time (our sand cave turns out nicely!).

The car then turned it's way through a round-a-bout until we were at an oyster bar, where we downed some much needed lunch.

Aquarium on deck! Or so we thought. Instead we made laps around the parking lot until we were fully satisfied that no parking existed.

"Fishing?" My brother-in-law offered to my nephew's delight.

Now off to grab some bait before stopping at the house so he can grab a quick nap.

For me though, it's pool time.

I want to follow the plan that's intact but sometimes you have to face reality.

That's why I joined SwimGym the other day and today I begin the lessons.

First up, is kicking and breathing practice, utilizing a kickboard.

400 yards goes painfully slow, with my inefficient kicks bringing me to a stop constantly.

I bail on the board and start to struggle through some laps.

An older man gets into the lane next to me and starts his graceful swim back and forth.

Every 4 lengths he stops and watches me. I try to hide, but there is no hiding this drowning pony.

Finally he gets out of the pool and walks over to me.

"Ever use a kickboard?" He asks.

"Yes, I just was," I reply.

"80/20. That's what you should be doing right now. 80% of your laps with the board just kicking. You're strong as f@!* but your kicks are killing you."

I tell him thanks and get out to grab the board. I finish my laps kicking and breathing. My ego took a hit.

But at least he said I was strong...
